Syncing OneDrive Files (From Teams and Sharepoint)

1. Setting up sync to OneDrive desktop app:

Using OneDrive for Desktop, you can add and sync your computer files across devices. Files can then be accessed from your computer, your phone, the OneDrive.com website and more. When you edit, delete or add a file in one place, the file is modified in all places.

To sync your files to OneDrive for desktop, first open the OneDrive desktop application.

When OneDrive launches, sign in with your work or school account. Once logged in, you’ll see OneDrive in your file explorer.

As your files begin to sync to your computer, you will see the OneDrive icon in your taskbar.

2. Veryifing a file has downloaded:

Next to your file names, you will see one of two icons.

The blue cloud indicates that your file is available only online. To open these files, you must be connected to the Internet, however, your file won’t take up space on the computer.

The green checkmark indicates that the file will be available on your devices without access to the Internet, but they will take up space on the computer. To change a files status, open the file from File Explorer. It will then download to your computer and the blue cloud will become a green checkmark.

Occasionally, OneDrive will change file status from offline to online to free up storage on your device. If you’d like a file to be permanently available offline, right click on the file and select “Always keep on this device.”

3. Setting up Sync from Teams, Sharepoint, and other Microsoft products to OneDrive desktop

Launch the OneDrive application from Start. From within Teams/Sharepointnavigate to the files that you want tsync across devices. At the top center of the screen, select “Sync.

The applications will begin to pair with OneDrive and may prompt you to log in, if you are not already. The applications may ask for permission to pair with OneDrive, which you will approve.

Your Teams/Sharepoint/Microsoft files will then appear in the OneDrive folder in File Explorer under the name of your organization (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill).

You can repeat these steps from any computer to sync all your files.
