Services We Offer

The Information Technology division offers services and support for all School of Government related online applications and digital content, computer needs, teaching resources and more.   Feel free to stop by our offices to discuss the scope and technological feasibility of any ideas you may have or wish to have implemented as well as for any technology related needs you may encounter.

We constantly monitor trends and review how emerging technologies may be applied in the School of Government.  Our instructional design team is available to provide brainstorming sessions, advice, and support to translate your ideas and apply the latest educational technology trends into new tools, applications, and other resources.  Our multimedia team can translate your ideas into compelling visualizations, motion graphics, and animations.  Our web team is also available to design and develop websites and mobile applications to suit your needs.

Teaching and advising are a cornerstone of the core activities of the School of Government. We support faculty and staff in the organization, design, and delivery of face-to-face classroom training, as well as synchronous and asynchronous distance education formats.

    Services unique to Instructional services:
    • Consultation
    • Webinars
    • E-Learning Modules
    • TurningPoint -  An electronic response system designed to increase classroom interactivity via live polling. The voting devices allow for multiple choice, true/false, and survey questions. Teachers can create questions with a PowerPoint add-in, which creates an additional toolbar item for easy question creation. In the classroom, a small radio frequency receiving device plugs into the instructor’s computer via USB. When the presentation reaches a slide with an embedded question, a special toolbar lets the instructor open the question up for polling. Once polling ends, an on-screen chart shows the results
    • Qualtrics -  A tool that allows for non-live post-session evaluations and assessments.
    • Learning Management Systems - Support of the dissemination and administration of course materials and facilitation of learning activities in an online environment. Instructors can deliver content in various formats (e.g., text, audio, video, multimedia), enroll students to the course, create learning paths, initiate and moderate online discussions, and manage student grades. The LMS Sakai is UNC’s central learning management system suitable for course sites, committees, research collaboration, campus organizations, online instruction, outreach, and more.
